FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

IS YOUR YOGA "HOT"?

We like our yoga warm and depending on the class it can get really warm. However, we do not currently offer “hot” yoga. Not to worry, however; yogis will still get an impressive sweat going! If you are attending an early morning class or later evening class don’t forget to wear layers. In the winter it can be chilly until your body starts moving. We have heaters helping to warm the studio but its smart to layer up when its cold out.

I'M NEW TO YOGA, WHERE DO I START? / I'VE NEVER TRIED YOGA, WHAT CLASS SHOULD I TAKE?

Our studio is a great place to initiate your yoga practice!  It’s very private and our classes are small, so you needn’t feel intimidated or shy about being on display while you’re still learning. Our “All Levels” classes are offered in “layers”: this means the instructor will demonstrate a posture for the class, and then instruct the optional progressions from easiest to hardest- allowing all levels to participate in these classes.  We do highly recommend that people new to yoga take either our “Yoga 101” workshop or “Level 1” classes as a comprehensive introduction to the practice. Until you feel more comfortable in a Level 1 class would you advance to a level 1.5 or 2. Remember yoga is challenging for all levels and even advanced practitioners, that’s why we call it a practice.

WHAT SHOULD I EAT AND/OR DRINK BEFORE CLASS?

Proper nutrition and water intake are an important part of being healthy, as well as having a great yoga class.  We recommend coming to class fairly hydrated and with a little snack in your system.  A good example would be to have an apple approx 30 minutes before class, and bring a water bottle along with you.  This will give you enough energy for the class and also keep you hydrated.

DO I NEED TO PRE-REGISTER FOR A CLASS?

No, you do not need to pre-register in order to take class. However, it is recommend to do so in order to reserve your space, especially for our workshops and pose clinics. It is also recommended to arrive 10-15 minutes early to class.

HOW DO I REDEEM A (GROUPON, COUPON, GIFT CARD, ETC.)?

Come into the studio about 15 minutes before class with your Groupon printed out, or the physical copy of your coupon/gift card. This will give us enough time to have you fill out our new student form, show you around, and get you all settled and ready for your practice!

CAN KIDS COME TO YOGA CLASSES?

Children ages 13 years old and up are allowed to take class. If you feel your child is athletically capable and can maintain focus throughout the duration of class time (we do not want to disrupt other yogis), then you may discuss with the teacher before class to see if it would be an appropriate fit.

DO YOU OFFER PRENATAL YOGA?

We currently do not offer prenatal specific classes, however our instructors will be able to offer modifications in any of our gentle, restoarive, or level 1 classes. Studio owner, Ashley Naungayan, has taken Ma Yoga's Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training, and is available for personalized, private sessions.

WHAT IF MY DOCTOR RECOMMENDED YOGA?

If your doctor has recommended yoga to you as part of an overall healthcare regime, then you have come to the right place! We deeply believe in the healing power yoga has to offer. Feel free to come into the studio to introduce yourself, and we can recommend a plan with the classes that will best serve your needs and goals. If you have a physical illness or limitation, we really recommend starting off with personalized, private sessions. This will give the instructor the opportunity to work with you one-on-one in helping you achieve safe alignment and proper modifications.

STUDIO ETIQUETTE

  • Arrive 10-15 minutes early – especially if you are new to the studio, or teacher. It’s very important to be on time for class. This gives you plenty of time to check in with the front desk, grab whatever props are needed, and inform your teacher if you have injuries.

  • If you do arrive late (and it happens) listen at the door BEFORE entering. It can be disruptive to enter during meditation. Wait to enter the practice room until you hear movement. If you do enter during centering, class opening, or meditation, enter silently. If you are more than 10 minutes late you may not be allowed to join class. This is for your safety; if you miss warm up injury can happen.

  • Turn your phone on DO NOT DISTURB. Putting your phone on silent does not silence the vibrations which are distracting and always occur during the quietest times.

  • Please leave your shoes and other personal belongings outside of the practice room in our cubbies or your car. Studios like to keep the space clear and clutter free to make space for a clear mind and movement without distractions.

  • Mind your smells, artificial or natural. Strong odors are distracting; please note odors and be mindful of others.

  • Wear loose fitting clothes that promote movement. Bring a water bottle and stay hydrated.

  • Follow the teacher’s directions and sequencing. Teachers spend hundreds of hours learning how to sequence safely and intelligently. When students go rogue, it is not only unsafe for all, but distracting to others.

  • Savasana is the most important and most potent pose. It is where the yoga benefits kick in. Let the teacher know if you need to leave early, and stop practicing in enough time to take your final rest. Please, please do not leave during savasana. It is very disruptive to those around you.

  • Have fun. Smile. Laugh. Enjoy your community, your class, and your yoga!
